Laboratory Specialist
Peggy Brodie took her BS in Biological Sciences from Michigan Technological University, majoring in botany and taking every lab she could get. She then worked at MTU's Institute of Wood Research, on a project exploring for new wood preservatives. Here at Virginia Tech, she has worked with Dr. Khidur Hilu on a project applying the matK gene of the chloroplast genome to plant systematics problems, herded fruitflies in Dr. Edward Wojick's lab and built a DNA construct designed to insert a fluorescent protein into the Drosophila slmb gene, and now performs the cell-based cytotoxicity assays that guide the Kingston Group's natural products isolation efforts.
On her own time, Peggy sings at church and in VT's Early Music Ensemble, and follows many creative interests, including living history.
