Past Virginia Tech Research Scientist
Dr. Thota Ganesh was born in the village of Ananthasagar (India) and obtained his M. Sc. and Ph. D degrees from Osmania University, Hyderabad, India. After his postdoctoral studies on the synthesis of unusual α-amino acids and polyquinanes such as dodecahedrane at the Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay (India), and as catalytic asymmetric synthesis and total synthesis of natural products at the University of Durham (UK), he joined Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) as a senior post doctoral associate. As a research scientist at VT, he carried out the research on anti-cancer drugs TaxolTM and the epothilones. In the program he designed and synthesized several Taxol analogs that were bound more effectively to the tubulin receptor than Taxol, and his most recent investigations focused on the study of the interaction of epothilones with their tubulin receptor and the total synthesis of natural products isolated from marine organisms.
