Past Laboratory Specialist Sr.

Andrew Norris was born in Stockton-on-Tees in the North East of England. He obtained a Masters Degree in Chemistry at Oxford University and a Masters Degree in Forensic Science from King's College London. During his time at Oxford he pursued research interests in the Bio-Inorganic Chemistry field, studying the kinetics and thermodynamics of coupled electron-proton transfer in biological systems. As part of his Masters degree at King's College he performed research at the Horse Racing Forensic Laboratory (HFL) and became a full member of staff at HFL upon completion of his studies. While at HFL, Andrew performed tests on biological fluids using ELISA and cell-based assays. Andrew moved to the US in December 2003 to begin work at Virginia Tech, becoming responsible for performing and developing biological assays for the detection of anti-cancer activity in natural products. The assays performed include general cell-based cytotoxicity assays and enzyme assays which focus on particular mechanisms which may be aberrant in the cell cycle of cancerous cells.
